Late Of The Pier

I first heard about Late Of The Pier somewhere in Artrocker, possibly in a live review, and then an interview with the band about how they were playing the underage festival. I don't know why I didn't check them out - they were on the page opposite Hatcham Social so maybe that distracted me - and when I heard the were supporting Hadouken! (one of many bands awkward enough to put punctuation in their names, grrr) I wasn't too eager to do the old hype-machine search. Come on, Hadouken!? (see how messy that looks? damn bands.) They're about as scenester as they come.
But I decided to give them a go since they had made a very cool comment about scarecrows in their interview with forementioned magazine (I'm easily impressed), and well the verdict...

Oh. My. God.

It was completely the opposite of what I was expecting and it caught me completely off guard, which is always a good thing. It's just unbelieveable, and I'm shocked and amazed they're not on the cover of every music magazine in the world, and people aren't namedropping them to look cool. They are that good.
Their myspace is a rather original www.myspace.com/lateofthepier , which I suggest everyone should check out. I am quite fond of their song Space In The Woods at the moment, especially the techno-rap near the end.
